Putting Snow In the Road is Against the Law?

Please do not put any snow or other debris in the roadway as it is in violation of NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law.

1219 - NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law
(c) No person shall throw or deposit upon any highway any glass bottle, glass, nails, tacks, wire, cans, snow, or any other substance likely to injure any person, animal, or vehicle upon such highway.
(d) Any person who drops or permits to be dropped or thrown, upon any highway any destructive or injurious material or material that interferes with the safe use of the highway shall immediately remove the same or cause it to be removed.

This would include shoveling, blowing, plowing onto or across the highway, or any other means of depositing or spilling snow (ice) on a public roadway.

Please help the Highway Department keep the roads safe for everyone.

Thank you.
